National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are engineering institutes in India governed by the National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007. There are a total of 31 NITs which are funded by the Government of India. As IITs, NITs are also declared as ‘Institutes of National Importance’ receiving the special recognition from the Government of India. NIT Council is the supreme governing body of India's National Institutes of Technology (NIT) system. These are the top-ranked institutions which are placed next to the IITs.
National Institutes of Technology (NIT) offers the courses at bachelors, masters, and doctorate levels in different branches of engineering, management, and science. For undergraduate courses of engineering such as B.Tech and B.Arch, admissions are done through the entrance exam JEE Main.
